It's the shipping they say; at least that's what most say. Businesses on average are about 30% more than the lower forty-eight. So why then does government spend on average 150% more?
Per my representative, Alaska DOT has about three thousand employees but we can't get the roads plowed. Just look at the school districts, Carol Comeau never saw a bond she didn't like. The people of Anchorage should put Carol on a plane and send her to the lower forty-eight where the schools are spending allot less and maybe she would learn something. Let’s face it; if you’re a deadbeat, Alaska is one of the best states to live in. We have a huge social service industry up here. But hey it’s ok as long as the Feds or the oil companies are paying for it. Folks this has to stop. The pork ride is almost over.
Businesses aren't blameless either. Personally I feel that most business are charging a fair price. I said most not all, especially in regards to gas and utility prices. When you have monopolies or crony capitalism (in that many local business lobby to keep out competition) price gouging is what you get.
We could all get a fairer deal if we just pulled together and maybe save this state in the process. I do love Alaska and I have met to many people up here that are considering moving because they’re better off economically somewhere else. What's sad is that many of these folks are the Sourdoughs who built this state.
